SRINAGAR: Dr Aziz Hajini is no more. He has passed away later this evening, a family source said.
Born as Abdul Aziz Parrey, he hails from Hajin Sonawari Kashmir wherefrom he gets his pen name. He had held several positions in academic and literary circles including the post of the Deputy Director Academic, Kashmir division; Research Officer State Institute Of Education, Srinagar; OSD Cultural Education, Department of School Education Government of J&K; Coordinator Sheikh-Ul-Alam Chair, Center for Sheikh-Ul-Alam Studies, University Of Kashmir. He was twice recommended by the high-level search committee for the post of Secretary J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages in year 2011 and 2014.
Dr Hajini was the first Gold Medalist in the Kashmiri language from the University of Kashmir. He was the author of several books in the Kashmiri language and had done translations of many books from English to Kashmiri. Besides being the Sahitya Akademy award winner, he was also conferred New Delhi Award for best translation in Kashmiri for the year 2013. Dr Hajini was the Convener of Kashmiri Advisory Board Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi from 2008 to 2012. He was also a Member of the Expert Committee for Granting Senior and Junior Fellowships in Literature, Ministry of Culture Government of India since 2009.
Dr Hajini was also the Executive Board Member of Sahitya Akademi from 2008 to 2012. Dr Hajini was also a member of the Sahitya Akademi’s Kashmiri Advisory Board from 1997 to 2002. He was twice elected President of Adbee Markaz Kamraz and was a member Advisory Committee of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Srinagar.
Dr Hajini was thrice elected as the General Secretary of the Adbi Markaz Kamraz between 1998 and June 2008. He was also the President Kashmir Theater Association from 1998 to 2000. Dr Hajini was the empanelled jury member for Sahitya Akademi Awards. He has participated in seminars, symposia and conferences the world over including Canada, the USA and the United Arab Emirates.
