Drass Freezes at -19.5°C as Cold Wave Grips Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh

   

SRINAGAR: Temperatures across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh regions showed a significant chill, with parts of the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh particularly affected by sub-zero readings, on Tuesday.

In the Kashmir region, the lowest temperature was recorded at Sonamarg, which dipped to -11.4°C, followed closely by Pahalgam at -7.8°C and Gulmarg at -6.6°C. Other areas, including Kupwara (-1.4°C) and Anantnag (-0.6°C), also experienced chilly conditions. Srinagar recorded a minimum of 0.9°C, while Qazigund, Baramulla, and Budgam saw temperatures close to freezing, hovering just above 0°C.

In Jammu, temperatures were relatively milder, with Kathua reaching 10.5°C. Jammu itself recorded a minimum of 7.1°C, while Katra and Reasi saw temperatures of 7.8°C and 6.6°C, respectively. However, areas like Bhaderwah (0.1°C) and Padder (-4.4°C) experienced colder conditions.

Ladakh recorded some of the lowest temperatures of the season, with Drass registering a frigid -19.5°C, making it the coldest spot in the region. Leh and Kargil were also notably cold, at -10.2°C and -6.8°C respectively.

The cold wave continues to affect the region, with temperatures remaining low across various areas, as compiled by Kashmir Weather.
