SRINAGAR: Drinking water supply has been temporarily suspended or severely affected in several areas of Ganderbal district following a possible breach in the Sindh Extension (SE) Canal that has led to a significant reduction in water discharge.
The advisory was issued by the Executive Engineer of the Jal Shakti (PHE) Division, Ganderbal, which said the disruption would continue until the repair works on the canal are completed.
The affected areas include Ganderbal town, Sherpathri Block and its adjoining areas, including Chundina and Shalbugh, besides Dagpora, Gadoora and Kujar.
Tulmulla, Dangerpora, Lar, Larson, Dumbkadel and adjoining habitations are also expected to face disruption. The affected areas further include Benhama, Wayil, Nunner and Babosipora, as well as Sehpora/Serch, Baderkund and Arch.
The advisory also lists Nagbal, Rangil, Darind and Malshahi Bagh among the areas where drinking water supplies may be affected.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to conserve water and use stored supplies judiciously during the disruption.
The Jal Shakti department said emergency tanker services are available for residents requiring water during the period.
The department expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to the public and said the affected supplies would be restored after completion of the necessary repair works.
