SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have solved a nearly two-month-old fatal hit-and-run case with the arrest of the accused driver and seizure of the vehicle involved in the accident, officials said on Sunday.
The case dates back to September 4, 2026, when an unidentified vehicle hit a pedestrian in the Babhar area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, resulting in his death on the spot.
The deceased was identified as Inthakab Khan, son of Sheraz Khan, a resident of Rajouri. Following the incident, FIR No. 161/2026 was registered at Police Station Pulwama under Sections 281 and 125(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The driver fled the scene after the accident, taking advantage of the darkness, and initially left investigators without any immediate clue about the vehicle involved.
Police said the investigating team at Police Station Pulwama pursued multiple leads, used technical assistance and undertook sustained efforts to identify the offending vehicle and trace its driver.
The investigation eventually led to the identification of the vehicle, which was subsequently seized, while its driver was arrested.
