SRINAGAR: A driver of a Scorpio vehicle has died while seven others were injured in a road accident on Srinagar-Jammu national highway inside Chenani-Nashri tunnel on Tuesday, officials said.

Official sources told news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration No JK15-2403 which was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar driven by Manzoor Ahmed Mir son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir, a resident of Sumbal Ghat, Sonawari, Bandipora with five more passengers had an head collision with Mini Truck (407) bearing registration no JK02AB-4094 which was on its way from Ramban to Udhampur driven by Sunil Singh son of Mohan Singh, a resident of Digdol, Ramban adding that in this mishap eight person were injured and were immediately evacuated to CHC Chenani.

They said that the driver of the Scorpio Manzoor Ahmed Mir was declared as brought dead, whereas the passengers identified as Mohammad Yousuf Son of Ghulam Mohidin, Bashir Ahmed son of Ghulam Mustafa Rather, Masood Ahmed Son Abdullah Rashid, Firdous Ahmed Son of Bashir Ahmed and Ali Mohd Son of Ghulam Mohd Mala all resident of Sumbal Sonawari Bandipora are being treated in the hospital.

The driver of the Mini Truck namely Sunil Singh Son of Mohan Singh resident of Digdol, Ramban, and another person in the Mini Truck Santosh Singh son of Thakur Dass resident of Sangaldan, Ramban, were also injured in the accident, they added.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and further investigation into the matter is on. (KDC)
