SRINAGAR: Driver of Directororate Information and Public Relations (DIPR) Syed Sehrish Asgar sustained injuries after the personal weapon of a Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB) official went off accidentally at Jawhar Nagar, area of Srinagar on Saturday.

Quoting officials news agency KNO reported that Ghulam Nabi, the driver of DIPR, sustained bullet wound after the rifle of SSB official posted with 10 Battalion D-Company, at J-55 government quarters at Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar went off accidentally.

“The driver was immediately removed to the hospital where he is being treated,” the official said, adding that an inquiry has been ordered to find out how the rifle of SSB man went off. “The bullet that came out of the rifle of SSB man first hit the wall and then the driver,” officials said.

The incident created panic in the area after which officials rushed to the spot. “An inquiry has been ordered. So far the condition of the driver is stable,” he said. The incident took place at a time when August 15 functions are going on amid tight security cover everywhere.
