The night temperature dropped in most parts of Kashmir Valley as south Kashmir’s famous hill resort Pahalgam saw mercury plummeting to minus 11.4 Degree Celsius.

The local meteorological spokesman said that Srinagar recorded minus 0.3 degrees Celsius. The night temperature in Qazigund was minus 0.0 degrees Celsius while in world-famous ski resort Gulmarg recorded minus 8.5 degrees Celsius.

Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded minus 1.0 degree Celsius against minus 1.4 degrees Celsius on last night.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered minus 3.2, degree Celsius. The Jammu city recorded 5.7 degree Celsius, Ramban 1.9, Batote 0.5, and Katra recorded 5.7-degree Celsius.

The night temperature in Leh and Kargil dipped to minus 15.0 degrees Celsius and minus 18.2 degrees, respectively.

Kashmir is currently under the grip of ‘Chillai-Kalan’ the 40-day harshest period of winter when the chances of snowfall are most frequent and maximum and the temperature drops considerably.
