Lashing out at those who demanded transfer of a senior IAS officer allegedly involved in suicide attempt, Chief Minister, Ms Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that Lawmakers should have discussed more pressing issues like drug addiction than raising issue of suicide attempt.
“I am ashamed that the suicide attempt by a lady officer was raised by Lawmakers in the house,” CM said in her closing remarks in the Lower House today as Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die.
The CM said given the discussion on the suicide attempt by an IAS officer, “people have raised finger of suspicion on every one now”. “Respect the sanctity of house,” she asked Lawmakers.
“The legislators should have raised and debated drug addiction and huge consumption of liquor,” she said.
An IAS officer had attempted suicide recently and PDP’s Javaid Mustafa Mir raised the issue in the house seeking investigation. Even deputy speaker, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, on Wednesday had asked government to present action taken report today. The report, however, was not presented.
The CM revealed as how school and college going girls are “being used for drug supply”. “It is unfortunate,” she said, “but I don’t understand why we don’t see these things.”
“I recently visited Makhdoom Sahib Shrine (RA) a few days, the locals pleaded with me to do something on drug addiction in the area,” she told the house, “worst is the situation in Jammu.”
However, the CM directed politicians and bureaucrats to maintain “distance between their private and public lives”.
“Don’t get you private lives into public,” she told addressing Legislators and bureaucrats. “Have some control on your actions,” he added.
After CM wad done with her speech, Javaid Mustafa Mir, stood to make his point about the issue, however, Chief Minister intervened forcing Speaker to “not allow him to speak”. The house was adjourned and Javaid Mir walked out of the house.
