Official sources said that a joint inspection team conducted a comprehensive inspection drive across various medical establishments in the district. During the inspection, officials thoroughly scrutinised the sale and purchase records of Schedule H1 drugs to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules.

The inspection revealed serious irregularities in the maintenance of records of Schedule H1 medicines at Waseem Medicate, prompting the authorities to seal the medical shop immediately. Officials have also initiated proceedings for the cancellation of the establishment’s drug licence in accordance with the law.

Officials said the action forms part of the intensified campaign aimed at curbing the illegal sale of psychotropic and habit-forming drugs, which are often misused and contribute to substance abuse.

The Drug Control Department reiterated its commitment to taking stringent action against violators and ensuring strict enforcement of drug regulations. It also appealed to all chemists and medical store owners to maintain prescribed records and comply with statutory norms, emphasising that any violation would invite strict legal action.

The department reaffirmed that the ongoing enforcement drive will continue across the district as part of the government’s efforts to build a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. (KNC)
