Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday claimed to have arrested one person at a checkpoint near Panchayat Ghar Adijen road following action against those involved in drug peddling in south Kashmir. Identified as Fida Hussain, he has been taken to Police Station D.H Pora where he remains in custody.

A police spokesperson in a statement said that officers at the checkpoint have seized 100 grams of brown sugar from his possession and a vehicle has also been seized in the matter.

“Case FIR No 14/2019 under relevant sections has been registered in Police Station D.H Pora and investigation has been taken up,” said police spokesman said.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” he said.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” said police spokesman in a statement.
