SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday arrested a suspected drug peddler in Kupwara and recovered a heroin-like substance from his possession.
A police spokesperson in a statement said, “A police team from Police Post Bazar intercepted a man at a checkpoint in Geerhatchi after he tried to flee on seeing the naka party. He was apprehended and identified as Faisal Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Kupwara.”
Police said a search led to contraband recovery, after which he was arrested. “A case under FIR No. 149/2025 has been registered at Police Station Kupwara under relevant sections of law. Investigation is underway. Preliminary findings suggest the accused was involved in the supply and distribution of narcotics in Kupwara town and the Hyhama area.”
Police have urged the public to report drug-related activities and assured continued action against offenders.
