SRINAGAR: Police in north Kashmir’s Sopore area of Baramulla district arrested a suspected drug peddler during naka checking under the jurisdiction of Police Post Putkha on Wednesday, officials said.
The arrest was made at Wagub Crossing, where a suspicious individual was intercepted during routine checking. During a personal search, a charas-like substance was recovered and seized following due procedure.
The accused has been identified as Hafezullah Lone, son of Ali Mohammad Lone, a resident of Wagub Sopore.
In this connection, FIR No. 69/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Tarzoo. Further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the contraband and establish wider linkages.
Police said strict action against drug peddlers is continuing across the district as part of the ongoing drive against narcotics under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to curbing drug trafficking and ensuring a safer and drug-free society.
