SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have attached illegal properties worth Rs 50 lakh belonging to a notorious drug peddler in Baramulla. Over the last four months, properties valued at 5.5 crores of 16 notorious drug peddlers have been seized in Baramulla.

“Continuing its crackdown on drug peddlers, Baramulla Police attached properties—9 Marlas of land and a double-storied residential house—valued at approximately Rs. 50.00 lakh, owned by Shabir Ahmad Sofi, son of Abdul Khaliq, a resident of Mazhama, Magam District Budgam. This action was taken under sections 68-E read with 68-F (1) of the NDPS Act of 1985, in connection with case FIR No.05/2024 under sections 8/20, 22 & 29 NDPS Act of Police Station Kunzer. The property was identified as illegally acquired during the course of the police investigation/enquiry. It’s noteworthy that during the last four months, the police have seized illegal properties worth 5.5 crores from sixteen notorious drug peddlers in Baramulla,” a  police spokesperson in a statement said.

Police urged community members to report any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhoods. “Those involved in drug peddling will face legal consequences. The ongoing efforts by the police against drug peddlers aim to reassure the community that measures are being taken to eradicate the drug menace from society,” police said.
