SRINAGAR: Night temperatures dropped at most places and continued to hover below normal in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 5.7°C, compared to 7.1°C the previous night, marking a 4.0°C deviation below the seasonal average for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

Qazigund saw a minimum temperature of 3.6°C, down from 5.8°C the previous night, indicating a departure of 4.9°C from the normal for this town, known as the gateway to Kashmir.

Pahalgam recorded a low of 1.0°C, down from 2.7°C the previous night, making it 3.7°C below the usual for this renowned resort in south Kashmir.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, registered a minimum of 4.4°C, up from 3.5°C, resulting in a 4.0°C deviation below normal, as reported by the official.

Kupwara town saw a minimum of 4.7°C, compared to 5.4°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 3.7°C below normal, according to the official.

Gulmarg recorded a minimum of minus 0.2°C, compared to minus 1.2°C the previous night, marking a departure of 4.5°C from the normal for this world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

In Jammu, the official stated, the minimum temperature recorded was 15.7°C, down from 16.1°C the previous night, which was below normal by 6.9°C for the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Banihal recorded a low of 8.0°C, Batote 9.5°C, and Bhaderwah 6.1°C, he said.

Regarding the forecast, the official stated that generally dry weather with afternoon thundershower activity is expected during the next 24 hours.

From May 3-4, partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain and thunder is expected at scattered places towards evening.

On May 5, generally dry weather with afternoon thundershower activity is likely at isolated places.
