Health Minister Taj Mohiuddin has directed immediate registration of a police case against the manufacturers of antibiotic drug Maximizane 625 milligrams after a laboratory test found it sterile, containing zero mgs of antibiotics, an official spokesman said.

The spokesman said teh drug was supposed to contain 500 mgs of Amoxicillin. It has been decalred spurious. The interesting aspect is that it was found part of the hospital supplies.

In this regard, the Principal Government Medical College, Jammu and Medical Superintendent, Lal Ded Hospital, Srinagar have lodged FIR against the drug company. Besides, the Principal Government College, Srinagar would lodge the FIR against the company after getting a formal copy of the report.

The spokesman said timely detection of these spurious drugs have saved many lives which could have endangered otherwise as these medicines are generally used for post-operative care.
