A team of Dukhtaran-e-Millat visited the home of Rubeena Akhtar, who was allegedly burnt by her in laws, at Dangerpora Kanipora, a statement issued by the outfit said.

Rubeena was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws at Namlabal area of Pampore. The team met her brother and sister.

The team was told that Rubeena was married to Adil of Namlabal Pampore last year in September. She was time and again harassed by her in-laws and was told that she had not carried dowry with her. Rubeena would be beaten by her husband, father in law and mother in law, the statement alleged.

Rubeena’s brother and sister who claimed to have witnessed the incident told visiting Dukhtaran that Rubeena had called them a few minutes before the incident and told them that she is being tortured.

“Rubeena told us that her in-laws are hatching a conspiracy to kill her. When we reached the spot she was up in flames. It was only because of us she is still alive, though she has suffered 60% burn injuries,” Dukhtaran statement alleged.
