SRINAGAR: A powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck in Tajikistan on Friday with tremors felt across Kashmir, prompting people to rush out of their homes.
The epicentre of the earthquake was in Tajikistan, according to India’s National Center for Seismology.
The earthquake struck at 10:31 pm IST at a depth of 74 km from the surface.
Strong tremors were felt in Jammu and Kashmir for several seconds.
Panic-stricken people rushed out of their homes in entire Valley following the earthquake.
A senior official said there were no reports of any damage. “We are gathering the information but as of now, there is no immediate report of any casualty or damage to property in the earthquake,” senior MET official said.
