Earthquake Strikes Bay of Bengal and Tajikistan, Authorities on Alert

   

SRINAGAR: A moderate earthquake measuring 4.2 in magnitude struck the Bay of Bengal at 7:26 IST, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported. The epicentre was located in the Bay of Bengal, and there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The tremor was felt in nearby coastal regions, but authorities have stated it is not expected to cause significant disruptions. The NCS continues to monitor seismic activity in the area.

Meanwhile, another earthquake of magnitude 3.9 struck Tajikistan at 4:35 IST on Tuesday. Occurring at a depth of 75 kilometres near latitude 37.15 N and longitude 72.43 E, no casualties or damage have been reported.

The NCS also noted a previous earthquake of magnitude 4.2 that hit Tajikistan on 26 November 2025 at 15:18 IST, at a depth of 90 kilometres near latitude 38.10 N and longitude 73.51 E. No significant impacts were reported from that tremor either.

Both the Bay of Bengal region and Tajikistan are part of seismically active zones. Authorities continue to keep a close watch on seismic activity to ensure public safety.
