The Jammu and Kashmir State Women’s Development Corporation (JKSWDC) organized a Mega Awareness camp attended by at least 600 women beneficiaries at Government Higher Secondary School, Saidakadal, Srinagar today.

Minister of State for Social welfare & Health, Asiya Naqash was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the women play a vital role in society and for making women economically self-reliant the Government has introduced several schemes in the State. She expressed the hope that economic empowerment of women would lead to their political and social empowerment. She also threw light on the issues related to women like nutrition, valuing Girl Child, female Feticide and domestic violence.

Highlighting the essence of various schemes being initiated by the Government, Naqash emphasized upon women in general and Self Help Groups in particular to come forward and work together for their rights and stand on their own feet so as to make their life prosperous.

Later, the Minister distributed cheques worth Rs 87.00 lakh among 41 beneficiaries for establishing their own income generating units.
