The encounter that lasted for more than 48-hours in the building of JKEDI in Sempore, 5km from Pampore, has ended Monday afternoon as police recover the bodies of three militants from the spot.

The police said that a mopping up operation is in on to clean the multi-storey building.

The encounter broke out Saturday evening when militants attacked a CRPF bus at Sempora on the Srinagar-Jammu highway and took cover in the nearby JKEDI complex.

A civilian, two captains and a soldier of Para 9, two paramilitary troopers of the Central Reserve Police Force and a civilian died in the encounter.

The slain people include Abdul Gani Mir of Gundipora Pulwama, JKEDI gardener, captain Pawan Kumar of 10 para regiment belonging to Jind (Haryana), captain Tushar Mahajan of nine para regiment belonging to Udhampur town of Jammu region, Lance naik Om Prakash of nine para regiment, head constable Bhola Prasad and driver constable RK Rana, both of the CRPF.

More than a dozen other troopers have been reported injured in the encounter.

Meanwhile, the Pampore town of district Pulwama witnessed massive protests today and tried to march towards the encounter site.

However, police stopped them which resulted in pitched battles. Police fired tear smoke shells and pellet fires to quell the protests

District hospital Pampore confirmed that eight people have suffered pellet injuries and are being treated in the hospital.
