SRINAGAR: Eight nomadic families, along with their livestock, were rescued from the higher reaches of Chattergul in Ganderbal district after heavy rainfall and landslides left them stranded and threatened their safety, officials said on Wednesday.
The rescue operation was carried out jointly by Ganderbal Police and the district administration after authorities received information that incessant rain had triggered landslides and created hazardous conditions in the area.
Despite difficult terrain and adverse weather, rescue teams reached the affected location and safely evacuated all eight families to secure places. Officials said the families were also provided essential assistance, including temporary shelter and other necessary support.
The operation ensured the safe evacuation of both the nomadic families and their livestock, preventing any loss of life amid the deteriorating weather conditions.
Officials said the district administration and police remain on high alert as rainfall continues in several parts of the district. Authorities are closely monitoring the weather situation and have advised residents, particularly those living in hilly and landslide-prone areas, to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather.
People have also been urged to immediately contact the nearest police station or the district emergency helpline in case of any emergency. Authorities said they are prepared to respond swiftly to any weather-related incident.
