SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, stated on Thursday that when people have no issue in paying for 5G data on their mobiles, there should be no opposition to the installation of smart meters in some parts of the Valley. He quickly added that smart meters will be installed everywhere, and monthly bills will be less than what people were getting earlier.

Addressing a function in Srinagar, the LG said that people have mobile phones in their hands and don’t hesitate to pay for 5G data. “I wonder what stops people from paying for electricity usage,” the LG said.

He assured that smart meters will be installed throughout the UT, and people will get uninterrupted power round the clock.

“I assure the people that they will get quality power at a cheaper rate. I also assure them that power usage bills with smarter meters will be much less than what people were getting with old meters,” he said.

The LG mentioned that the J&K administration has testing equipment to check the actual power usage by consumers. He also stated that more power will be generated in the next three years than what was generated in the last 70 years. “Transmission and distribution have been streamlined. Consumers will get 24×7 power supply, and supply will only get interrupted whenever there is any technical snag or repair,” the LG added.
