SRINAGAR: A gunfight broke out between security forces and militants in the Sanyal area of Hiranagar in Kathua district of Jammu, on Sunday.
Quoting sources, KNO reported that, based on specific inputs about the presence of terrorists in Sanyal, a joint team of security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area.
As the search operation intensified near the suspected location, the hiding militants opened fire on the forces, triggering an encounter, they said.
A group of militants affiliated with Jaish-e-Muhammad is believed to be trapped in the area.
