An encounter started at Kakriyal area near Mata Vaishno Devi University, Jammu on Thursday after the government forces established contact with the militants who had escaped into forests on Wednesday after attacking forces party.
An official said that gunfight broke out following a massive search operation launched by the forces in the area on Wednesday morning.
He said on Wednesday the suspected militants opened fire on security personnel after they intercepted a truck that sped past a check post.
“One AK 47 and three magazines were recovered. The truck driver and conductor have been taken into custody and are being questioned,” the police spokesman added.
In wake of the incident a family has claimed that the militants, who were hiding in the area, had come to their home at around 9:00 pm on September 12 and asked for food, water, and clothes.
When reports last came in the exchange of heavy firing was going on.
