SRINAGAR: An encounter broke out on Wednesday between militants and counter insurgent forces in Machil sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said.
Police said a joint team of police and army launched a cordon and search operation at Pichnad Machil in Kupwara.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering a gunfight, they said.
