A fierce encounter broke out between forces and militants on Saturday evening in Handwara forest area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

A senior police official told GNS that army’s 21 RR, army’s 6 RR have launched massive searches in several forest areas connecting Hafruda area following the deadly attack that left four soldiers dead on October 05.

“Today in late in the afternoon army’s 21 RR have intercepted the group at Wader Balla forest area”, he said.

After being intercepted, the joint team of army’s 21 RR, 92 bn CRPF and SOG engaged the group in a gunfight, he said.

When last reports came, the intermittent exchange of fire was going on in the area.
