SRINAGAR: A gunfight broke out between militants and counter insurgent forces in Nowgam area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Wednesday.
Reports said that a joint team of CRPF and Police launched a cordon and search operation in Nowgam area after having credible inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.
On a specific input generated by Police, an #encounter has started in Nowgam area of #Srinagar District. Srinagar Police and 50RR are on the job. Further details shall follow.@JmuKmrPolice

As the joint team of Police and CRPF approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon forces triggering an encounter.
When last reports came intermittent firing was going on.
