SRINAGAR: A gunfight started between militants and security forces in the Matergam area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
Quoting a top police officer, Srinagar-based local news agency Kashmir Scroll reported that a joint team of police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Matergam.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militantss fired upon the forces, triggering a gunfight, the officer said.
Meanwhile, a top police officer also confirmed the exchange of fire between militants and security forces.
