SRINAGAR: Dr Ashraf Ganai, Professor of Endocrinology and Head of Clinical Research at SKIMS Srinagar was conferred with an honourary Fellowship jointly by the South Asian Federation of Endocrine Society (SAFES) and the Indian Thyroid Society (ITS), reports reaching from Kochi said.

The fellowship citation was presented to Dr Ashraf at the three-day annual conference of ITS – ITSCON 2023 by Prof Susan Mandel, Chief, of Endocrinology at Penn Medicine, USA and D M Vasudevan, Director, Medical Research, Jubilee Mission Medical College & Research Institute, Thrissur.

Dr Shashank Joshi, President SAFES and Dr Sarita Bajaj, President, ITS were also present on the occasion. Pertinently, Dr Ashraf is one of the members of the Executive Committee of ITS.

The 3-day ITSCON-2023, which concluded here on May 28 evening, was organized by ITS to address the new developments in the field of Thyroidology with extensive deliberations from the experts in the field. The conference brought together International and national experts in Thyroidology to discuss the significant advances in understanding thyroid disorders and consequently better treatment options available for patients.

According to the organisers, key highlights of ITSCON 2023 included Thyroid and Pregnancy symposia, a Thyroid Surgery live workshop, ITS Presidential Oration and Orations, Plenary Talks, Symposia, Controversies, Debates and Case Discussions on Thyroid Disorders.

Indian Thyroid Society is the largest Thyroid Society in Asia and is constituted with the objective of spreading awareness regarding thyroid disorders among professionals and the public at large. The Society aims to educate and improve the skills of doctors and paramedics in the management of thyroid disorders and promote research in the field. ITS has more than 2000 members, including physicians, endocrinologists, surgeons, nuclear medicine physicians, pathologists and basic scientists.

It may be noted that Dr Ashraf who is currently working as Professor of Endocrinology at SKIMS Srinagar has been working in the area of lifestyle disorders and has published numerous research papers on the subject.

Dr Ashraf has been previously awarded an Honourary Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) by the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, England.

Dr Ashraf has 200 scientific Publications and 20 Research Projects to his credit including important projects like Genom India, Universal Health Coverage for Tribals and ICMR PCOS Task Force. The academic and scientific contribution of Dr Ashraf has been recognized across the globe

Dr Ashraf was working as Associate Professor at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi before joining back at SKIMS Soura.
