SRINAGAR: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday permitted Baramulla Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid, arrested in a terror funding case, to attend the ongoing Parliament session under custody.
A bench of Justices Chandra Dhari Singh and Anup Jairam Bhambhani directed that Rashid be escorted to Parliament daily between March 26 and April 4, with restrictions on phone usage and media interactions. He will return to Tihar Jail after each session.
Rashid has been in jail since 2019 following his arrest under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a 2017 terror funding case linked to Pakistan-based militant leaders.
The Enforcement Directorate also filed a money laundering case based on the NIA’s charges of conspiring to wage war against the government. In 2022, a special NIA court framed charges against Rashid under various IPC and UAPA sections, including sedition and terror financing.
The court ruled that during Parliament hours, Rashid would remain in the custody of Parliament security and be returned to jail immediately after proceedings. All travel and related expenses will be borne by him.
