SRINAGAR: Engineers in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday called for the implementation of Assured Career Progression (ACP) for engineers serving across the Union Territory during the 59th Engineers’ Day celebrations held in Srinagar.
On the occasion of the Engineers’ Day, the Chief Minister today inaugurated ‘IEI GHAR’, a guest house of the Institution of Engineers (India).

The programme, organised by the Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu and Kashmir State Centre (IEI-JKSC), in collaboration with the J&K Coordination Committee of Engineering Graduates Associations, brought together serving and retired engineers, Chief Engineers and members of the engineering fraternity.
The celebrations were held on the theme, “Engineering Excellence for a Sustainable and Technologically Sovereign India”, and marked the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.
A major highlight of the programme was the inauguration of the IEI-JKSC guest house, ‘IEI GHAR’, at Church Lane, Sonwar, by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Lal Chowk MLA Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed Pardesi, Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb, IEI-JKSC Chairman Er. Ferdous Ahad Bhat, honorary secretary Er. Irfan Ahmad Reshi, members of the Executive Committee and senior engineers were present on the occasion.
Omar Abdullah cut the ceremonial ribbon to formally inaugurate the facility and later toured the guest house.
Appreciating the initiative, the Chief Minister said ‘IEI GHAR’ would provide a useful facility for members of the engineering community visiting Jammu and Kashmir from outside the region.
He said the facility would also help facilitate professional interaction and engagement among engineers visiting the Union Territory.
During the Engineers’ Day programme, IEI-JKSC Chairman Ferdous Ahad Bhat and JKCEGA president Er. Farooq Ahmad Ganaie stressed the need for structured career advancement and professional growth for engineers and urged the government to implement ACP for engineers serving across Jammu and Kashmir.
Er. Nasir Amin, Executive Engineer, also spoke about the contribution of engineers to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and highlighted issues faced by the engineering community.
Addressing the gathering, Nasir Aslam Wani spoke about the role of engineers in sustainable development, technological advancement and the future growth of Jammu and Kashmir. Pardesi also acknowledged the contribution of engineers to nation building.
The programme began with an introduction by IEI-JKSC honorary secretary Irfan Ahmad Reshi, followed by a welcome address by Chairman Ferdous Ahad Bhat.
Engineering Excellence Awards were also presented to recognise distinguished contributions in the field.
A technical session was subsequently held, featuring presentations by Er. Aadil Hassan, Er. Peerzada Owais, Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Mir and Er. Bashir Ahmad Dar. The session focused on technical knowledge, professional perspectives and contemporary developments in the engineering sector.
