SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Tuesday carried out an extensive inspection of several Shia-majority areas of Srinagar to review arrangements for the smooth and peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram.
The Deputy Chief Minister visited key religious sites, including the Shrine of Mir Shams-ud-Din Araki (RA) at Zadibal, Imam Bara Zadibal and Imam Bara Hassanabad, where he assessed facilities being put in place for devotees and mourners.
Accompanied by MLA Hazratbal Salman Ali Sagar and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq, he also toured Imam Bara Gulshan Bagh, Baghwanpora, Nawabagh in Lal Bazar and Bota Kadal, interacting with residents and local representatives to take stock of preparations on the ground.
During the inspection, Choudhary directed departments to ensure seamless coordination and make adequate arrangements for uninterrupted healthcare, drinking water supply, electricity, sanitation, road connectivity, street lighting and other essential civic services during Muharram.
“Deploy water tanks in all the affected areas on a regular basis so that residents do not face any inconvenience during the Muharram observance,” the Deputy Chief Minister said, instructing officers to maintain round-the-clock readiness and establish an effective grievance redressal mechanism for prompt resolution of public issues.
Senior officials from various departments briefed him on ongoing arrangements and developmental works. The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring adequate facilities and a conducive environment for Muharram observance across Jammu and Kashmir.
Later, he visited Soura to review progress on key infrastructure projects, including the Donibagh–Soura road widening project. He directed authorities to remove bottlenecks and encroachments hindering progress and stressed the need for smooth traffic flow and improved connectivity.
He also reviewed ongoing City Gateway development works in Hazratbal and Zadibal, calling for their timely completion while maintaining high standards of quality.
