An MOU was signed on Friday between Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC), University of Kashmir, and Kashmir Motors Technical Training Institute (KMTTI) Srinagar, for skill development of local unemployed youth for empowering them to become job providers instead of ‘job seekers’.

The spokesman in a statement said that the MOU has strengthened the mission of the University to collaborate with the local industry in order to promote entrepreneurship development in the State of J&K.

“The MOU was signed by Professor Neelofar Khan, Registrar University of Kashmir and Professor Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat, Advisor EDC, on behalf of the University of Kashmir and Ufair Ajaz Kitab on behalf of Kashmir Motors,” the spokesman said.

In his introductory remarks at the signing ceremony, Professor Bhat said that the current initiatives of education have moved from ‘knowledge creation’ to ‘knowledge application’ and the MOU signed today is a positive step towards this initiative, he said.

Ufair Ajaz reiterated the commitment on behalf of his Company to provide State-of-Art training to the deserving youth and assured of their suitable and satisfactory placement of the qualified trainees.

While congratulating EDC and Kashmir Motors at the occasion, Professor Neelofar Khan said that such Industry-academia collaborations are important for economic growth and employment generation in a State like J&K which has the highest rate of unemployment in the country.

The signing ceremony was attended by several officers including Prof. Altaf Hussain Pandith Member, Advisory Board of EDC, Prof. Rais Qadri, Dean Students’ Welfare and other officers of the University of Kashmir and Kashmir Motors, Srinagar.

Kashmir Motors group of Companies is an OEM of Honda India products in Kashmir with a large market share in domestic and agricultural products including domestic Kerosene/LPG Generators, Pesticide Spray machines, Water Pumps, Brush Cutters, Land Tillers, Tractors etc. Further, the Company is one of the major authorized dealers/service providers of two-Wheeler and Three-Wheeler automobiles in Kashmir.

“Since most of these products are being used by people in rural Kashmir, there is a need to establish Workshops and Service stations across all districts of Kashmir for providing requisite maintenance and re-assembling facilities for these products in rural Kashmir,” the statement said.

He said that the establishment of these service stations will not only facilitate a large number of people living in rural areas and using these products but provide an employment and business development opportunity for the local youth.

The spokesman said that as per the MOU, Kashmir Motors will provide skill development training to the eligible youth identified by EDC and arrange suitable placement for at least 70% of the trainees, who shall complete the training successfully as certified by EDC.
