The chargesheet has been presented before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Pulwama, in FIR No. 44/2026 under Sections 318(2), 336(3) and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The accused has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Yatoo, son of Ali Mohammad Yatoo, a resident of Chanpora, Rajpora, Pulwama.

According to the investigation, the case originated from a written complaint alleging that the complainant and the accused were partners in a business. During the settlement of their accounts, Rs 35 lakh was found outstanding against the accused.

The complainant alleged that the accused issued a cheque to clear the liability. However, the bank dishonoured it after finding that it had been drawn in the name of the accused’s father, who had died two years earlier, and allegedly bore the accused’s own signatures.

The EOW said the allegations were substantiated during the investigation and the charges against the accused were found to be established.

The investigation was completed by Sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmad, following which the chargesheet was submitted before the competent court for judicial determination.

Meanwhile, the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir, advised people to maintain proper records of business dealings, verify financial instruments and remain cautious of fraudulent practices to protect their money.
