Independent lawmaker and MLA Langate, Er Rasheed Friday defied the restrictions and drove towards Jamia Masjid Srinagar to offer the mandatory Friday prayers in Srinagar’s Historic masjid.
However, Rasheed along with his workers was stopped by a contingent of police and paramilitary forces near the Jamia Masjid gate, a spokesperson of Rasheed told Kashmir Life over phone.
He said, “We had planned to offer Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid Srinagar and if not allowed would have offered on the main road near Jamia Masjid.”
However, he said, “Police dragged Er Rasheed and his workers to police station Nowhatta and kept them lodged there.”
The spokesperson said that they fear Er Rasheed might have suffered injuries for he was dragged along the route to Nowhatta police station from Jamia Masjid gate. “We are not allowed to talk to him,” he said.
