Er Rashid Meets ‘Iron Lady’ In Imphal

While urging central government to revoke the draconian AFSPA from J&K and Manipur without any further delay and excuses, independent lawmaker, from Langate Er Rashid expressed full solidarity with Irom Sharmela ‘The Iron Lady of Manipur’ who is on fast onto death in Imphal since last 12 years demanding revocation of AFSPA.

Er. Rashid led a five member delegation from Kashmir including renowned social activist Tanveer Hussain, to Manipur, traveling a distance of about 4000Kms to express solidarity with Irom Sharmela.

“ MLA Langate briefed Shamela about the human rights abuses in Kashmir and about the atrocities being committed under the garb of AFSPA. He said that Kashmiris have been facing the ugly music and unbearable heat of AFSPA since last 23 years and as such they can feel the pain of Manipuri People better than anyone,” a statement issued here said.
Er Rashid saluted the courage and conviction of Miss Sharmela and hailed her efforts to fight the battle single handedly.

According to the statement, Miss Sharmela thanked Er Rashid and other members of the delegation for extending Kashmiris support to the just cause she is fighting and hailed those efforts of Er Rashid he has been carrying out in Kashmir against human rights abuses.

Speaking on the occasion Miss Sharmela said that other MLAs in J&K and Manipur should take a queue from Er Rashid and fight against the state terrorism and all sorts of Human Rights violations.

Latter Er Rashid and other members of the delegation visited Irom Sharmela’s residence and interacted with her family members including Sharmela’s 80 year old mother.

It is worth to mention that Irom Sharmela has been jailed in State hospital of Manipur and a ward of the hospital has been converted into a jail for the ‘Iron Lady’.

Earlier MLA Langate and other members attended a meeting on Human Rights Violations which was organized by a Human Rights Organisation namely ‘United Peoples Front’. During the conference which was attended by human rights activists, civil society members,students,lawyers, members of Muslim minority community and prominent citizens of Imphal detailed discussions, debates and deliberations were held with respect to Human Rights violations in J&K and Manipur. According to a statement issued by Er Rashid, it was decided that joint efforts for raising the voice for revocation of AFSPA from J&K and North East will be intensified.
