Srinagar:  A market checking squad headed by the Enforcement Officer FCS&CA Kargil Muhammad Baqir Sarfaraz and comprised of Inspector Food Safety Muhammad Hussain, Assistant Sub Inspector Police Post Bazar Muhammad Hadi, officials of Municipal Committee Kargil and other concerned departments today conducted market checking in Kargil town from Old Bus Stand to Poyen, Lal Chowk to Hospital Road and adjoining areas.

The spokesman said that during the course of inspection, the team thoroughly inspected more than 58 establishments and took stock of the hygienic conditions of food items like vegetables, fruits, meat and other food items available in the market. They also conducted the checking of restaurants, hotels and barber shops.

The charging of rates and other set standards were also checked on the occasion.

34 business establishments were penalized on spot for violating the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 and Essential Commodities Act and a fine of Rs 9800/- was collected from the offenders on spot.

The inspection teams advised the traders and shopkeepers to display the rate list prominently at their establishments. They were also instructed to ensure proper maintenance of cleanliness.

Meanwhile, the District Administration has appealed all traders to avoid black marketing or hoarding and warned of stern action against the violators under rules.

Specific directions have also been issued to the concerned officers to carry out frequent inspections and checking of the market so as to curb overcharging, black marketing, use of polythene and sale of substandard food items.
