The Governor’s Administration has decided to enact a law for the establishment of Family Courts in the State.

The objective behind setting up Family Courts is to promote conciliation and secure amicable settlement of disputes relating to marriage and family affairs.

According to Secretary Law, Abdul Majid Bhat, as a part of pre-legislative consultation policy, draft Jammu and Kashmir Family Courts Bill-2018 has been made available on the website of the Law Department (www.jklaw.nic.in) for feedback. He said the hard copy of the draft Bill can also be obtained from the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Civil Secretariat, Srinagar.

The Law Secretary said that the Law Department is seeking comments/suggestions from the Government Departments/ institutions/Bar Associations, stakeholders, the general public and other entities on the draft Bill.

He said the last date for receipt of the comments/ suggestions is 30 September 2018.

The comments/suggestions mailed in MS Word format at [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected].

The subject of the e-mail should be comments/suggestions on draft the Jammu and Kashmir Family courts Bill, 2018.

He said the alternatively, comments/suggestions can also be sent by post to Abdul Majid Bhat, Secretary to Government, Department of law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Room No. 222 Civil Secretariat J&K Srinagar.
