SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government informed the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday that several politicians, journalists, and government employees are illegally occupying government accommodations in both Srinagar and Jammu.
In response to a query by MLA Abdul Majid Larmi, the government said: “Yes, Sir. There are some accommodations both in Srinagar and Jammu under the unauthorised occupation of politicians, journalists, and employees.”
The MLA had sought clarification on whether a significant number of influential individuals were overstaying or occupying Estates accommodation without proper authorisation.
The government response did not name any individuals, but it confirmed that the Estates Department has been instructed to initiate eviction proceedings under the J&K Estates Department (Allotment of Government Accommodation) Regulations, 2004. (KNO)
