AIMIM president and parliament member Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday said that every citizen from Jammu and Kashmir has a right to live free from fear to reside in any part of India.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter Owaisi wrote: “Every Kashmiri has a right to live free from fear, to reside in any part of India. These xenophobic attacks against Kashmiris are deplorable & must be condemned. We cannot let our rule of law be replaced by a rule of mobs.”

Owaisi’s statement comes following the reports of the attacks on Kashmiris outside the valley.

Earlier on Friday, it was reported that members of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad thrashed some students in Dehradun and other states. Following this, the students locked themselves inside their hostel rooms and rented houses.

Some students from Delhi have expressed fear for their lives. The Delhi police have strengthened the security all across the state. Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma in a tweet said: “Visibility of police personnel has been increased. We’ll ensure the safety and security of every citizen, including Kashmiri inhabitants and students living in Delhi.”

As a precautionary measure, the Aligarh Muslim University has asked its students not to move out of the campus.
