A former militant of the Hizbul Mujahedeen outfit, his wife and their three children were arrested in Kupwara district of North Kashmir after they returned from Pakistan via Nepal, officials said on Thursday.

Sources told GNS that Bashir Ahmed Mir @ Abu Baker, his wife Akhtar Bibi of Muzarabad Pakistan and their three children Kadir (10), Musaib (08) and Tauseef (05) were taken into custody by a police team today morning when they reached Kupwara district.

“Bashir Ahmad, who belonged to Naunwani Kalaroos belt of the district, had crossed over to Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) via the Line of Control (LoC) in 1994 for arms training and came back to India in 2004,” sources said, adding that he operated as a Hizb militant in Lolab area for 4 years.

They said that nothing incriminating was recovered from him and his interrogation is on.
