SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a former In-charge Superintendent Engineer of the Jammu Kashmir State Power Development Corporation for allegedly forging official service records to alter his date of birth and obtain undue service benefits.
According to a spokesperson, the chargesheet was submitted before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar in FIR No. 09/2015 under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) against the retired official.
The case was initiated following a written complaint alleging manipulation of the officer’s date of birth in official service records. The matter was subsequently taken up by Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir and investigated.
The investigation reportedly found that the accused had altered his date of birth in service records from October 28, 1955 to October 28, 1958 to extend his service tenure and secure additional benefits. The findings were supported by verification from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) Srinagar and the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE).
It was further alleged that the accused destroyed his original service book to conceal evidence, resulting in the invocation of Section 201 RPC.
Officials said the investigation concluded that the allegations stood proved, after which the chargesheet was filed for judicial determination.
The EOW has advised the public to remain vigilant against economic fraud and report such cases to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir, Crime Branch JK, or via email at [sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in](mailto:sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in).
