SRINAGAR: A Special NIA Court here on Wednesday directed the Superintendent of Central Jail Srinagar to get Waheed para medically examined by a specialised doctor.
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Waheed Para as per a report by news agency KDC was found unconscious in jail on Saturday. While his jail inmates were alarmed about his unconsciousness, the jail authorities took him to the Police Hospital for a check-up.
It was said that doctors while checking Waheed had recommended further treatment, Echo scan and follow-up check-up in Super Speciality, said the report.
According to an order, the court of the special judge Srinagar Manjeet Singh Manhas Wednesday heard the application of Waheed para represented by his counsel Advocate Mir Tashveeq Gowhar seeking further medical aid to him for the acute nasal infection and other ENT problems.
As per the order, the next hearing of Waheed Para’s (Accused) case is listed on 15-02-2022.
“In view of the facts and circumstances of the case, I deem it fit and proper to allow the applicant in the interest of justice,” read the order copy.
“The applicant is allowed and Superintendent central jail Srinagar is directed to get the accused medically examined from a competent/ specialised doctor under the rule and submit compliance report before this court,” the order added.
The special NIA judge has also forwarded the copy of the order to the superintendent of Central Jail Srinagar for compliance.
Pertinent to mention that Para was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on November 25, 2020, just a day after he announced his candidacy for the District Development Council elections and filed nomination papers.
In January 2021, he was granted bail by the NIA court. The special judge at the court held that “offences particularly falling under Unlawful Activities Act (UAPA) are not prima facie made out against the accused”.
The judge had said that none of the charge sheet presented before the court contained “reference of the present applicant” or referred to him as “suspected accused”.
While Waheed was stepping out of the jail, he was arrested by Jammu Kashmir Police Wing, CIK, on the same charges. His bail application was rejected twice and is jailed in Srinagar Central Jail where his condition has deteriorated as per family.
