SRINAGAR

National Conference leader Ali Muhammad Sagar Tuesday said that Government has not imposed ban on Moharrum procession in Srinagar.

“During the days of Moharrum, processions are being taken out everywhere and we see people participate in these processions freely. So it is incorrect to say that government has imposed ban on these processions,” Sagar told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar.

He however said that in Lal Chowk area of Srinagar, Government does not allow procession because there remain ample chances of eruption of group clashes in the city. “Government allows mourners to take out procession everywhere but at few sensitive places it has to ban the procession to maintain peace and amity,” he said.
