One Border Security Force (BSF) personnel was killed and six others were injured when they came under heavy firing from the Pakistani rangers along International Border (IB) in R S Pora sector.

“Pakistan troops resorted to heavy shelling at Indian positions at more than 30 locations along the International Border killing one BSF jawan and injuring six others,” defence sources said.

India and Pakistani troops resort to exchanging of heavy firing along IB and LoC from August this year and every time both the sides allege one another of violating ceasefire which is in place from 2003.

The latest incident of firing took place only a day after after Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde reviewed security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and had an aerial survey of the IB and LoC.

Heavy exchange of firing was reported late on Tuesday in the RS Pura and Pargawal sectors and continued for almost six hours throughout the night.

The Pakistani troops fired mortars and rockets targeting BSF posts and nearby villages, reports said.

Police said that the BSF trooper and others who were injured came under heavy shelling by the Pakistan Rangers on Indian positions last night.

Reports said that the BSF also strongly retaliated to Pakistan firing and heavy shelling.
