The exchange of fire again took place along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Saturday afternoon. The last exchange was reported from the area on Thursday and the officials had reported calm prevailed on LoC from last more than 36 hours.
A senior police officer has said to a Delhi based news agency, “The Pakistani Army violated the ceasefire in Shahpur Kerni sector of the LoC in Poonch district today (Saturday) afternoon.”
Firing started at 12.45 p.m and is still going on (at 2 p.m.) till the last reports came in.
Pertinently eight civilians were killed on LoC in the Jammu region since Oct 6, while over 60 were injured.
As many as 30,000 border residents are presently living in relief camps set up by the state government away from the areas vulnerable to Pakistani shelling.
