Police Thursday busted a gang and arrested four persons who used to indulge in extortion in Srinagar city. Superintendent of Police Srinagar city North, Tahir Saleem said that Maharaj Gunj Police received a complaint from one Qaiser Ahmad Bhat son of Nisar Ahmad of MR Gunj that on in February this year, while boarding an Auto Rickshaw from Jamalatta Chowk the auto driver put a knife on his neck and forced him to handover all the valuables he was carrying with him.

“The complainant was not carrying any money and thus the extortionist forced him to take out cash from HDFC ATM and robbed him off Rs 15000. The same person was again robbed off Rs 25,000 near Jamalata Chowk in the same manner after few days,” SP city said.

“After the twin incidents, the complainant received threat calls from cell number 9796505245 and was threatened of dire consequences in case he inform anyone about the incidents,” he said adding that after analyzing the phone calls four persons were arrested.

SP City North said that during investigation, video footage of HDFC Bank ATM was obtained and cell phone where from threat calls were received was analyzed.

“A gang of 4 persons was identified to be involved in extorting money from the innocent people. Police accordingly registered an FIR vide number 24/2014 under section 392 RPC,” he said adding that out of four accused two are the Auto Drivers.

Police identified these four extortionists as Adnan Bashir Zargar son of Bahsir Ahmad resident of Qutubdin Pora Aali Kadal, Owais Harbool son of Ghulam Muhammad of Aali Kadal, Shahnawaz Ahmad Dar son of Mehraj Din resident of Nawa Kadal and Manzoor Ahmad Khan aka Waheed Tiger son of Gulzar Ahmad Khan resident of Aali Kadal Srinagar.
An amount of Rs.45000 has been recovered from them and the knife used in commission of crime has also been seized in the case.
