FADA J&K said the measure would benefit dealers who have already initiated the statutory process, submitted the prescribed application through the VAHAN portal and deposited the requisite fee. The additional period will allow such dealers to complete pending documentation, inspection and other statutory requirements.

A delegation led by FADA J&K Chairperson Sanjay Aggarwal and senior members of the federation met J&K Transport Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan and expressed appreciation for the department’s decision.

Aggarwal described the move as a practical step towards improving the Ease of Doing Business environment for automobile dealers in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the decision addressed concerns raised by dealers who had already begun the Trade Certificate process but were yet to complete all required formalities.

“We sincerely thank the Transport Commissioner, J&K, for considering the concerns of the automobile dealer fraternity and bringing this practical and time-bound facilitation,” Aggarwal said.

He said the automobile sector had become an important component of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy through its contribution to employment, government revenue, consumer services and the wider automotive ecosystem.

Aggarwal also called for further improvements in the Union Territory’s Ease of Doing Business framework, including time-bound approvals, clearly defined documentation requirements, consistent interpretation of regulations and reduced physical interaction.

FADA J&K said it had been raising issues affecting automobile dealers with the government and various departments, seeking simpler, more transparent and business-friendly regulatory procedures.

“Ease of Doing Business should not only mean digitisation of applications but should also ensure time-bound approvals, clear documentation requirements, uniform interpretation of rules and minimal physical interaction,” Aggarwal said.

He added that FADA J&K would continue to engage with the Transport Department and other stakeholders to support reforms aimed at simplifying regulatory processes while maintaining compliance with the law.

The federation has urged all eligible dealers who have already initiated the Trade Certificate process to use the three-month facilitation period to complete their pending statutory requirements within the prescribed deadline.

FADA J&K clarified that the measure does not constitute an exemption or waiver from the requirement to obtain a Trade Certificate, and eligible dealers must continue to comply with all applicable statutory provisions.
