Highway Traffic scheduled to move from Jammu to Srinagar on Saturday was halted after a section of the road caved in at Peeda.

“As of now,” said a traffic official, “Highway has been closed for vehicular movement.”

He said that Highway at Peeda caved in on Saturday morning, which forced authorities to halt the traffic.

“Road restoration work is going on,” the official said.

In the past two months, landslide-hit Highway caved in number of times at Magarkote, Nasri, Peeda and many other places.

Keeping in view the frequent weathering and ongoing road work of Srinagar-Jammu Highway, J-K CM Mufti Muhammad Sayeed recently batted for Mughal Road as all-weather road.

In fact, during his meeting with union Transport and Highway minister, Nitin Gadkari, Mufti requested New Delhi to declare Mughal Road an alternate highway.
