SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has registered a case after a man was allegedly cheated by a fake overseas job consultancy and trafficked to Cambodia under the guise of employment.
According to an official statement, the complaint alleges that the victim was approached by an unauthorized consultancy operating from the Pattan area, which falsely promised him a job abroad as a computer operator with an attractive salary package.
Believing the offer, the complainant reportedly transferred a substantial amount of money to the accused’s bank account and also incurred additional expenses on travel and related arrangements.
The statement further said that upon reaching Cambodia, the victim was received by unknown persons and was allegedly forced to participate in fraudulent online activities instead of being provided the promised job. After refusing to comply, he realized that he had been deceived and defrauded of his money under false pretences.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the allegations attract provisions under Section 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Accordingly, a formal case has been registered at Police Station EOW, Srinagar, and further investigation is underway.
